Story
I am riding in the 200-mile Queen Eleanor Cycle Ride between 26 and 29 August 2022 in support of the fantastic work of the Connection at St Martin-in-the-Fields. The Connection supports homeless people in central London, to help them on a journey away from living on the streets and back into society.
The route of the ride follows the locations of the 12 Queen Eleanor Crosses, which Edward I built in memory of his wife Eleanor of Castile, after she died in Harby in 1290, to Charing Cross in London, a stone’s throw from the headquarters of the Connection, near Trafalgar Square.
I am aiming to raise at least £1,000 for the charity by participating in the ride. I would be so grateful for your sponsorship to raise funds for this worthwhile organisation.
The Connection at St Martins is with people as they recover from life on the streets and move on to meaningful, fulfilling futures and a place to call home. They do this by tackling the underlying causes of rough sleeping as well as offering practical help. They work with people, not for them, and put every individual person at the centre of their recovery. As part of St Martin-in-the-Fields, they have been on the frontline helping people in crisis for over one hundred years, right in the heart of Westminster which has more people sleeping rough than anywhere else in the UK. During the pandemic, when they had to change how they delivered services to keep their staff and clients safe, they supported over 1,100 people on their journey away from homelessness.
