Hi, my name's Nick and I'm currently quarantined in a hotel room for 2 weeks. Naturally, boredom has led me to do a marathon in my 7 meter room.
My hotel room is 312 inches in length. I measured this using a 12 inch ruler, 10 times over to mitigate random errors. Don't worry, I'm fine. Assuming I miss an inch at each end of my room, this gives me 310 inches or 7.87m of walking space. One marathon = 5358.8 lengths of my room. Or 9 hours of brisk walking.
Being in confinement and isolation for the past few days has made me more aware of the mental struggles that so many individuals constantly face, especially during a pandemic. For me, being active plays a big role in staying healthy, both physically and mentally. Being emotionally isolated like this for only 2 weeks is not a privilege everyone has. I’ve decided to try and raise money as I walk, and donate to both The Eikon Charity back home and Tompkins County Mental Health Association here at college (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/nicholas-de-boer-tompkins-county).
Eikon provide support for Young People facing trauma or challenges in their lives. Young People these days are so exposed to situations that negatively effect their mental health be it at school, at home, in their communities or online. Eikon provides support for them, early on in order to prevent their problems from becoming a crisis. They provide:- Youth Workers in the community and safe places where children can feel secure, build friendships and learn to thrive.- Youth Specialists in schools for children and young people to reach out to, or be referred to when they are struggling.- Resources for teachers and other professionals to help children learn to cope and thrive, no matter what life throws at them. Please give generously. Thank you!
