Story
January 2019 marked the beginning of my 40th birthday challenge: cycling from London to Paris in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care which was founded in 1979, the year I was born, and therefore shares my 40th birthday! As a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at PTHC, I recognize the difference that hospice care can make to patients and their families.
This challenge became unexpectedly more poignant in February 2019 when my mum was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer and died at home 6 weeks later in March. I experienced first hand how important it is to achieve someones wish for a peaceful death in the home they love and has made me even more passionate about the role for hospice care.
I want to celebrate my 40th year by raising money for PTHC in its 40th year, enabling the hospice team to continue their invaluable support to local patients. Each pedal stroke will also be in memory of my dear mum.
