Nicholas's 190 Mile Coast to Coast Ramble
Fundraising for Saint Michael's Hospice
Fundraising for Saint Michael's Hospice
In late April me and one of my closest friends (and im sure many more friends too!) will be heading west to east, walking from St.Bee's Head on the coast of Cumbria on a ramble that will end 190 miles on the otherside, in Robin Hood's Bay, Yorkshire.
Starting in Wainwrights Lakeland traversing fell and tarn, scrambling on scree, scaling many a peak and adding to numerous cairns its gonna be a tremendous effort heading over and out of cumbria and into the more familiar pennines and the Yorkshire Dales of Home. Not without its challenges, dale after dale for me the challenge will not be moorland, hilltop, ghyll, beck or force but the bounty of cheese to be had at all the many creameries the Dales holds. Finally the Yorkshire Moors will not be an easy ramble just because it's fairly flat, the Moors can easily distract with its beauty but with widespread peat bogs, surprise cloughs and shakeholes it all soon becomes heavy on the feet.
Ive done plenty of walking in my time and 15 miles a day aint far, but ive never done it continuously for two weeks so its gonna be a hell of a ramble and all for an excellent cause both for Saint Michael's Hospice in Harrogate and in memory of my dear friend Bill.
Cancer gets to us all. Maybe you won't ever have it yourself but you are lucky if you don't know someone who isn't battling it or hasn't at some point.
In december I said goodbye to a true great, the nicest man I ever met and someone I always looked up to. I will never forget the way he made me laugh, his big hugs, the advice he gave me and even his criticism of my 'fuzzy and blurred' Instagram posts!!! Michael 'Bill' Crewe, you will forever always be missed but never forgotten
Bill leaves behind the most amazing family in Portia, Beth and Louise
amongst many other friends and family and so I will be raising money to go to Saint Michaels Hospice in Harrogate for the care they provided Bill and continued support they provide to his family.
Saint Michael's exists to help people with terminal illness to live and die well. They do this by offering specialist care, comfort and support, free of charge, to patients and their families. They are an independent charity working in the Harrogate District. I would like to raise as much money as possible so that they can continue to care and support those that are ill and to help further enhance local standards in end of life care, reach more people and improve the lives of as many families as possible affected by cancer or other terminal illnesses.
I would love to see as many friends join me on my ramble, so please feel free to join me for any part of the walk, the more the merrier and the more money raised the better!
Please be a love and give a donation if you can.
Much love,
Nicholas Chandler (RamblinMan)
