I am running the Dublin Marathon for the Alzheimer's Society because they do such fantastic work. My husband's aunt was diagnosed with Alzheimers 7 years ago. I have watched first hand what it can do, not only to Rosaleen, but to Colm's family-it has been hard to stand by and watch Rosaleen deteriorate to a point where she can no longer do the everyday things we take for granted.What is more heartbreaking is when she could no longer even recognise her own family.

The Alzheimer's Society provide day care and home care for people with dementia, as well as support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of caring. Every year they invest around £2 million in their research programme. This money funds important research that will help to improve the quality of life for people with dementia, by tackling questions related to the causes of dementia, investigating good practice in care and treatment, and pursuing a cure. It is such a fantastic charity so please dig deep!
