Story
Three years ago my daughter Evie was rushed to hospital with Meningitis. I was told to expect the worst and that if she survived, she would be severely brain damaged and unable to lead a normal life. Evie suffered damage to the left side of her brain and was completely paralysed down her right side. She had frightening seizures and was unable to talk, walk or even sit up unaided. The six months that followed consisted of living in a hospital ward constantly waiting for the results of blood tests, EEG readings and MRI scans.
In the words of her consultant – Evie is nothing short of a miracle.
She has regained complete function of her right side and despite the damage to her brain, shows every sign of being a normal, happy and healthy four year old.
The doctors told me that if Evie had arrived in hospital an hour later, she would not be here today and I know they were not exaggerating.
In September Evie will start school - this is a massive milestone for a brave little girl that has been through so much in her life already.
To mark this milestone I'm taking a step up from the walks and runs I've done in the past and doing my first Triathlon..... or maybe two...!
This years Challenge...
Triathlon number 1 - 13th July
Ponteland Triathalon: 400m Swim/20k Bike/5k Run
Triathlon number 2 - 19th July
Newcastle Triathlon: 750m Open Water Swim/24k Bike/5k Run
Half marathon - 7th September:
Great North Run: 13.1 miles of joy ;-)
I am not doing this because I enjoy swimming round lakes!!!
I have been so lucky so please help me to raise money for those families who have not been so fortunate.
