Story
A few months ago, my brother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer which came as a huge shock to us all. My prior knowledge of this cancer was pretty limited- I didn't know it was the 2nd largest cancer killer, that it's rates amongst young people are rising and that if diagnosed early it can be treated and cured. So because of this, I want to try and raise as much awareness of this illness, especially for young people.
On the 21st August, I will be putting myself through something both mentally and physically challenging in support of Greg's even bigger challenge. I thought no better place to do this than on knifes edge up Crib Goch. I know a scramble up Snowdon is hardly comparable to a cancer diagnosis and rounds of chemotherapy, but it was that or a marathon- I know my strengths and cardio will never be one of them. So to save mum the panic of another child being in hospital I've opted for scaling Snowdon.
This walk isn't about raising lots of money, it's more about raising awareness of Bowel Cancer and the early signs to look out for. If you're able to donate and support this charity that would be amazing, but if not all i'm asking is for you to trust your gut, give a shit and all the other quality puns you can think of. And if nothing else, please just sign the Never Too Young petition to lower the age for bowel cancer screenings and save other young people and families from going through this.
So, in the words of our Vardy, 'chat shit, get tested' x
