Niamh's MASSIVE Walk

Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge 2023 · 24 June 2023 to 25 June 2023 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page! I’m walking 100km continuously at the Cotswold Way Challenge this year for the Samaritans.
I’ve always been very open about my mental health with my friends and close family, but only the closest to me know just how bad the situation got last June where I went to a bridge and tried to take my own life.
I thought nothing was going to get better, it was beyond sadness… it was pure desperation that nothing would ever feel good again. I was low, sad, depressed and wanted everything to end. It was a totally selfish action and at the time I wasn’t thinking about my Fiancé, my parents, my sister, my best friend. I just needed an end to all of it.
But when I was stood on top of that bridge, something or someone (whatever you want to believe) stopped me in my tracks and I faltered. The only number I knew off the top of my head was the Samaritans number my GP had given me months before (I was sure I would never need it I assured her at the time).
I believe that the Samaritans saved my life that day and I wouldn’t be here without them.
So when this challenge rolls around it will just be over 1 year since that eventful day where I got locked in a room inside a mental hospital for my own safety by the police. This is my way of giving the smallest thing back to this incredible organisation.
I still struggle through hard days even though life is a lot brighter now, but I wouldn’t have been able to experience this brightness without them.
So please give what you can, people just like me will be forever grateful x
