Glasgow Women's 10K Run & Great Scottish 5K Swim 2018 · 10 June 2018
After 11 years, and 3 kids later, I am finally attempting to do another Glasgow Women's 10K. There have been a few false starts with this - not least when after 2 short jogs in 2015 I was scuppered by emergency bowel surgery. Then there was 'dodgy calf' -gate. So the race is tomorrow and despite my knee now feeling exceedingly dodgy I hope to make it round in under 1 hour. No PB but just completing it would feel great.
THEN, in August, I will head up to Loch Lomond, wetsuit in tow, to attempt a 5 kilometre swim. I have never swum that far before-ever and I have to do it in under 2 hours or they will haul me out of the water (or something like that). 5K is quite far - in a 25m pool that's 200 lengths. So once the 10K is out of the way I have a lot of training to do. I managed 2 miles last year, so hoping that this is not impossible.
I have chosen Cancer Research Kids & Teens as my charity as I have been moved by friends' stories and posts about how underfunded children's cancer treatment is and how most of our donations to the big cancer charities help adult treatment. That said, it's hard for smaller charities to make a difference with research as it costs a lot to do it well. I know that Cancer Research UK is a really well run charity, and so choosing their 'kids and teens' specific fund ticks all the boxes.
This video says it better than I can (tho you might have to cut and paste the link):
