Story
I have suffered a series of injuries but am still just about on track for the full marathon on April 15th. I'll be there on the day and will make every effort to finish. If I don't make it across the line, I'll immediately sign-up for another marathon within 8 weeks. Thank you for your support. I have just got back from Kenya and been reminded who I am running for. It is a great cause and every single penny will make a huge difference to children in very poor circumstances.
Updated on Feb 20th 2012 - The Brighton Half Marathon has just issued me a new time of 2:07 - Stage 1 Complete
I'm Running For Footsteps... I am signed up for the Brighton Half Marathon on 19th Feb 2012 and the Brighton Marathon 15th April 2012.
I'm raising money for some of the poorest kids on the planet (I'm with them in the photo - I tried to get them to look all forlorn like in the charity adverts but we were having too much fun). Contributions will go toward a new community school and a childrens ward to accompany the health centre built a few years ago.
I'll be running in footgloves, thats just 4mm of rubber between me and the road (see photo). I'll also be running in tights - sponsor for any reason, ideally to help the kids, or just because I'll suffer in tights!
The Charity
I have had opportunity to visit rural Kenya and work with the communities that Footsteps are helping to help themselves. I have seen first hand the positive impact that the charity has in helping communities prize, care for and educate their children. You don't really understand poverty until you understand having to make a choice providing an orphan in your community a meal at the expense of a meal for one of your own children. Some of the stark choices that Footsteps help to take out of a community.
The Challenge
Running has long been a challenge for me. I had to pull out of the Isle of Wight Half last summer with shin splints and achillies tendon issues. I have had 6 months out of training and returned recently with a determination to do the run but constant reminders not to over do it. I'll be running to finish, rather than to break any records.
