Nia's Machu Picchu trek

machu picchu trek · 1 September 2021
Hello I'm Nia, I am studying Business Management and Marketing in Nottingham Trent University. In September 2023 I will be taking on a 6 day trek up Machu Picchu in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation.
Im really looking forward to participating in this challenge as it is something I have always wanted to do and to be able to do it supporting such a worthy charity makes it far more rewarding.
About the trip:
During this trip I'll spend two days exploring the city of Cusco, followed by a 6 day hike in the Andes covering 81km. Each night will be spent camping in the mountains, and on the hike I'll stop at the following destinations; Soraypampa, Laguna Humantay, Salktantay Pampa, Abra Salkantay, Collpapamapa, Santa Teresa Valley, Lucmabamba, Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu. Once the challenge is completed and we reach Machu Picchu, I will get an overnight bus to Puerto Maldonado and camp in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest for a few nights and will complete activities and trips such as; twilight river cruise along the Madre de Dios river searching for wildlife, walking along the Inkaterra canopy walkway which is 103 feet above ground and near the rainforests canopy, Carachamayo natural water pools, learning how to fish traditionally - Peruvian style! As well as a rainforest walk at night, listening out for mammals, birds, reptiles, insects.
The Charity:
Charities have suffered a severe loss of income during the current pandemic, therefore I aim to raise £3500 by late July 2023 in aid of The Meningitis Research foundation; a charity which aims to research and raise awareness of two serious diseases, Meningitis and Septicaemia. for more information about the charity please see https://www.meningitis.org/meningitis/what-is-meningitis
Thank you so much for all your support! I will be updating this and my facebook page and frequently informing everyone with my progress! xx
