Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

March 2022 I celebrated my 50th birthday.  To mark reaching this fabulous milestone I chose to celebrate and fundraise.

My journey took a turn in 2004 when I was diagnosed with a brain tumour.  After the operation to remove it, I suffered sepsis around my brain which led to having Hydrocephalus and a permanent shunt inserted to drain the excess fluid from my brain. I have an Acquired Brain Injury and I continue to have tests, procedures and surgery.
Suffering a number of restrictive conditions has dramatically affected my quality of life and I rely wholly on input from two hospitals to manage.

In the  main, my care comes from UHCW hospital in Coventry. I would like to donate my fundraising to the Neurosciences department of the hospital.

Instead of receiving birthday cards & gifts, I am requesting that friends donate what they would have spent, no matter how small.
I am holding a party for family & friends on 26th March, with a great live band and hot food. On the evening I will hold a raffle with great prizes including a £80 meal voucher to spend at Turtle Bay.

UHCW is a designated major trauma centre.
The Neurosciences unit is the sub-regional centre for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with a wide range of neurological and neurosurgical conditions such as Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, head injuries, spinal disease, vascular disorders and tumours of the nervous system.
In addition to serving the local population, the unit provides a national and international service for more specialised neurosurgical conditions including skull base and vascular surgery, hydrocephalus and neuro-oncology.
Neurology provides expert care to thousands of adults each year, many with rare and complex conditions.

The neurosurgery team is central to the management of brain and spinal injury following trauma.
There is a thriving multidisciplinary service where neurosurgeons work closely and collaboratively with surgeons from other specialties including orthopaedics, ENT, maxillofacial and plastics from within UHCW and beyond.
