My Dad is 71 and was diagnosed with Pick’s Disease, a form of dementia, three years ago. He lives at home with my Mum and still enjoys going out for a walk most days. But, life for them both is very different to the retirement they expected.
By 2025 it is estimated that 1,000,000 people in the UK will have some form of dementia. Charities like Alzheimer’s Society provide invaluable support to sufferers and their families and they need our help to maintain and expand the support they give. The local Alzheimer’s Society in Cardiff has been great in supporting my Mum and Dad already.
I can’t believe that I’m actually going to throw myself out of an aeroplane, not least because I have a terrific fear of heights, but I want to do something bold to highlight the prevalence of dementia and the great work of the Alzheimer’s Society. Any donation that you could give, however small, would be very gratefully received.
