Story
Millions of people, mostly women and children, have fled Ukraine, with many crossing the border into Poland. Hungry, exhausted and traumatised, people are in urgent need of food, water and shelter.
Heavy fighting, shelling and air strikes are having devastating consequences, costing lives and livelihoods, driving families apart and causing mass displacement.
ActionAid is rapidly responding to provide emergency support and protection for those forced to flee in Poland and Romania.
Urgent needs include food, water, shelter, hygiene and dignity kits, as well as protection services, psychosocial support and safe spaces to prevent gender-based violence.
Four classes of Learning Opportunities students at North East Scotland College (2 based at Aberdeen Campus and 2 based at Fraserburgh Campus) are working together cross-campus, 'Walking for Ukraine', to help raise funds and support Action Aid and the many millions of people in urgent need.
We aim to walk a combined total of at least 500 miles to raise at least £500 in the 6 week period we will be undertaking this challenge.
