Story
Inspired by a extraordinary family man, great friend, keen cricketer, sportsman and local legend to many, the Smashing it for Smither’s fundraising page has been created to honour the memory of this inspirational man, Kevin Smither, who sadly lost his brave and unrelenting battle with terminal cancer in July 2013
Kick started by the Smashing it for Smither’s Charity Bike Ride, which saw cyclists, Neil Scott and Paul Cook accompanied by safety motorcyclist John Coster journey between 9 county cricket grounds across the Midlands and South England in August 2013. The ride was a test of sheer endurance, taking a huge amount of mental and physical strength to travel a total of 400 miles in just 5 days.
Since this epic charity bike ride, Smashing it for Smithers has inspired many to donated their time, kindness and much needed funds in all manners of fundraising activities including charity school t-shirts, wrist band sales, wedding bar and pub quiz night donations.
The next event planned to raise funds for Smashing it for Smithers is the 'Pretty Muddy Maidstone' event at Mote Park on 12 July at 12:30. A down and dirty ladies only event, climbing and racing through 5 kilometres of muddy obstacles! The hope for the Smashing it for Smither’s legacy is to continue to fundraise long into the future to help the Kent Oncology Department at Maidstone NHS Hospital, Hermitage Lane, who were a continued support to Kevin and his family and are a vital source of care for so many across the county and further.
