Story
I am proud to join again this mammoth 470km (300 mile) cycle challenge in September from Paris to Eindhoven to raise much need funds and awareness to eradicate cancer. This time, our UK Team is raising funds for Children with Cancer.
This is particularly poignant for me after losing my 97-year-old neighbour, Joan to cancer earlier this year. Joan was suffering from depression and anxiety during COVID and we had a cuppa most Friday's for the last 2 years which also helped me through working from home.
We had started to draw up a list of 100 things to do before Joan's 100th birthday before she was diagnosed with bowel cancer in the summer last year. On the day, I received a text message at 6am from Joan that she was not feeling well. Yes, Joan was still actively texting at 97 years old!
With Joan's health getting worse we made Christmas extra special, buying a 14-foot Christmas tree for our front garden which Joan could see from her bedroom and organised a celebration with neighbours.
Joan loved the event and was the first time she'd tasted Bailey's in her 97 years. This became her new "medicine" and we had a Bailey's every week instead of a cuppa.
I miss our chats together!
Thank you for supporting me to help raise funds for this indiscriminate and wicked disease.
