Story

On Thursday 13 April 2023 five members of the Blue Light CC will take on, as individuals, a climbing challenge based on Mt. Everest.  Simply, they will each ride 8848 metres vertically. The height of Peak 15.

The riders and club are keen to show their support to the Fire Service and it's members.  It is one of the five nominated charities that the club supports.

Our event also wishes to acknowledge Kent Fire Service after a serious incident last year involving one of our members.

Club member Charlotte Lawson was the victim of a significant accident whilst minding her own business on her trusted Brompton in Kent.  She was hit with such force that she was sent into a nearby stream with the car rolling and landing on top of her.

Fire crews from Strood, Thames-side, Chatham and Rochester attended and rescued Charlotte before colleagues from Kent Police, Kent Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance dealt with the incident and transferred Charlotte to King's Hospital in south London.

To show our admiration and thanks the five riders will push themselves to the limits of their capabilities to show the strength of feeling the club has for their efforts and that of the Fire Service in general.

The club's main sponsor Wills and Trusts Wealth Management will be the focal point for this challenge with all five riders attempting the challenge at the company's Henley in Arden office.

As the riders come from the Kent and Essex areas, places not known for their mountainous, features, the event will be held on the greatest cycling app, Zwift.

Using the virtual world's Alpe d'Huez the riders will seek to climb the mountain eight and a half times to achieve their individual goal.
