Story
Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my page!
On 27th May, I'm going to be running 10K in Richmond Park, London to help fundraise for my volunteering trip to Borneo with Raleigh International.
I'm going on an expedition to Borneo for five weeks at the end of July and I need to raise as much as I can to be able to volunteer on the trip and help the charity.
First and foremost, this is not a holiday! Although it will be fun, I am going to Borneo to help Raleigh's project in Sabah - in the North of Borneo.
Why am I going to Borneo?
Well, here is some lovely information from Raleigh's website:
- Sabah has the highest rate of poverty throughout Malaysia.
- 21% of Sabah children have never attended school - the highest rate throughout Malaysia
- Many rural communities do not have access to clean, reliable water
- Borneo rainforests are the oldest in the world and home to some of the rarest and most diverse ranges of species
So far Raleigh has achieved much from the 10 years they have been in Borneo. In 2011, they have:
• Installed 7 gravity-feed water systems
• Built 2 kindergartens
• Constructed 7 eco-sanitation units
• Completed two community centres
• Built 15kms of boardwalks, bridges and fences to improve capabilities of 4 conservation areas
• Carried out 3 wildlife surveys and discovered a new frog species!
• Helped prepare the Sun Bear Conservation Centre to open to the public in May 2012
• Began a new biodiversity research project to survey an area of secondary rainforest
If you would like to make a donation I would be really grateful. Once again thanks for looking at my page!
