We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

Margaret was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease 6 and a half years ago.  She has done incredibly well so far but the Coronavirus Lockdown has had a significant impact and she has clearly deteriorated during the last few months as her usual activities have been closed so she has had less to keep her mind active.

I plan to do two walks.  One will be with her in the New Forest around Holmsley old railway and Whitten Pond on Tuesday 25th August 2020 and the other will be a longer walk to be open for friends to join with me in memory of Margaret should they so wish.  This is planned for Saturday 19th September 2020 at Farley Mount starting at the Monument car park.  In total the walk will be between 12 and 14 miles in length.

Achieving this target will mean that I have raised £1,000 this year for the Alzheimer's Society which seems a good target to aim for.

The response from people to my effort has been humbling and gratifying.  Never did I think that I would be able to raise the sums that I have but I just hope that the funds continue to come in as support for this most worthwhile cause.

I have added a further walk to the collection when visiting my son and daughter-in-law in Maidstone on Tuesday 25th August where we dodged Storm Francis as far as we could and completed a 3 mile loop near their home.  The Holmsley walk was done the following day.

Today (19th September) I was joined by a number of my local council clerk friends and colleagues with some family members to complete the final Memory Walk for this year.  It was a lovely day and a great time was had by all doing a walk from Farley Mount near Winchester of about 6.5 miles.  It is amazing and humbling how much has been raised for this worthy cause and I wish to thank all those who have contributed and who hopefully will continue to do so.
