Story
In January 2015 we lost my Mother in Law to Myeloma, a cancer that when diagnosed none of the family had heard of. In January 2016 virtually a year to the day after we lost Freda I was also diagnosed with Myeloma, I remember the consultant saying you may not have heard of this rare cancer, little did he know we knew it all too well. After months of treatment including chemo I received a Stem Cell Transplant in December 2016 which left me feeling very weak and fatigued with very little energy. That aside my aim and goal whilst going through treatment was to do the London to Paris Bike ride with Myeloma UK. It was something to aim for and build myself back up as a part of my rehabilitation. I am proud to have my Son in Law Carl riding alongside me to Paris. Carl has helped me get back on my bike and has been out with me supporting me on each ride and getting me through those tough rides when I have had nothing left.
Myeloma is not a curable cancer and I live with it every day but Carl and myself are riding to raise Money for Myeloma UK to fund research and to help support families who have loved ones diagnosed with this Cancer. We are riding to make Myeloma history. So please donate it will mean so much to us and it will make a difference.
About the ride:
4 Days in saddle, 500km on the road
Day 1 136km London to Calais
Day 2 114km Calais to Abbville
Day 3 104km Abbville to Beauvais
Day 4 80km Beauvais to Paris
About Myeloma:
Myeloma, also known as multiple myeloma, is a blood cancer arising from plasma cells. At any one time there are around 17,500 people living with myeloma in the UK. It accounts for 15 per cent of blood cancers, and two per cent of all cancers. Myeloma mainly affects those over the age of 65, however it has been diagnosed in people as young as 20.
Myeloma is a relapsing-remitting cancer. This means there are periods when the myeloma is causing symptoms and/or complications and needs to be treated, followed by periods of remission or plateau where the myeloma does not cause symptoms and does not require treatment.
