Story
I am getting involved in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, which involves walking 24.5 miles in one day. This is by far the furthest distance I will have ever covered, on foot, in one day. I have even bought a special pair of boots for the event ! I wanted to challenge myself with something new.
When I saw this event, it really appealed for two reasons. Firstly, the charity is a good local charity, that was set up in memory of Daniel Barnett, who sadly passed away after a courageous battle with Cancer at the age of 19. I never got to meet Daniel but I know his Mum through training up at Herringthorpe. She is a lovely lady and works very hard to fundraise for this charity in honour of her son. The charity aims to help young people and their familes, from Yorkshire, who are living with cancer to express themselves through arts and music workshops. Something that I hear was very close to Daniel's heart. He was a very talented artist (you may have seen his murals displayed around Rotherham) and this gave him focus and hope even in the hardest days of his struggle. The charity aims to help others to do this.
Secondly, on a selfish note it will be very challenging trekking all that way up the three highest peaks in Yorkshire. A once in a lifetime event, for me, in God's Own County. It is also being lead by Darren Pearce who was the person who first inspired me to start to try to get fit and healthy with his boot camps on Catcliffe Rec and then Herringthorpe. It will be great to be working with him again, for such a worthy cause.
So, if you have managed to read on this far, well done !! Please donate what ever you can to ensure I raise as much as I can to get me through this tough challenge and help young people, who need it, across Yorkshire.
Thank you for your support
Neil
