John O'Groats to Van's End - A Virtual UK tour for Carers UK · 4 October 2021
This October with my team, I will be virtually taking on the John O'Groats to Van's End Challenge in aid of Carers UK. For the month of October we will work as a team the travel the distance from this two points which equates to 990 miles or 1600 km.
We all have someone we know that has been or is currently caring for a loved one, some of us have done it ourselves. I am taking on this challenge to show support of the unpaid carers in my life.
Caring affects us all. The number of people providing care was already growing as a result of our aging population. As a result of the pandemic, the number of unpaid carers jumped dramatically by 4.5 million to13.6 million, a quarter of the adult population.
Carers are in more desperate need of information, emotional support and relevant advice than ever before. Thousands of carers have had no respite during the COVID-19 pandemic, telling us they are exhausted, worn out and at breaking point. Now that for some of us life is returning to normal, many unpaid carers remain deeply worried about what the winter will bring for the vulnerable people they
care for.
Each pound we raise will help support more carers.
£25 could help us make vital connections and answer emails from four people who find it difficult to pick up the phone
£200 could allow a trained adviser to run a Zoom advice session, helping to connect 20 carers who are new to caring, bringing them together to share crucial information and support
£500 could staff our Helpline for a day, helping connect over 100 carers to much-needed information and support from one of our trained advisers. Please support me with my challenge!
