Story

Those that know me will be familiar with my need to excel.  I always want to push myself to the limit and will train hard to get there.

It's been an ambition of mine to complete a Half such as Holkham for some time and so last year I signed up in early November.

Then whilst taking part in a Duathlon event in Wales in late November i had a serious accident on my bike - and like everything - I even had to excel at that!  Shattering my Femur from the hip down 15 cm.  A week in a Welsh Hospital, major surgery and an upgraded leg with a titanium rod and screws holding my broken femur back together, I found myself in a position where I wasn't sure I would be able to ever take part in events like this again.

I couldn't lift my leg or walk unaided for some time and the recovery process has been slow and painful.

But I am finally back on the bike, running and cycling, albeit slightly slower than before and I am determined to finish this race.

As an extra incentive to cross that finish line I have decided to run the event raising money for a charity close to my heart. Prostate Cancer UK.

My father has been battling this disease since 2008. A relative of my wife has just undergone surgery following a cancer diagnosis and I have witnessed friends and colleagues battle this illness for years.

It would be great to have some support for this event and to raise money for such an important charity.

Thank you for visiting my page and if you decide to make a donation - thank you for your support!

FINAL UPDATE!

RACE COMPLETE!

After signing up for this event, my numbers brain decided I should be aiming for a completion time around 5 hours 30 minutes.   After my injury this changed and I was going to be over the moon to complete the event anywhere near 6 hours.

And after all the stress and sleepless nights. The painful recovery and hard work training...I completed the event in 5 Hours 24 minutes and 52 seconds!

I cannot tell you how amazing it was to cross that finish line, especially with my girls who joined me for a family finish!

I am so grateful to everyone who has generously donated to my JustGiving page. I never dreamed I'd raise such an incredible amount. Thank you to each and everyone of you. Your support means so much. And has put me in the top 5% of fundraisers on JustGiving right now, which is another unexpected achievement.

I must thank the amazing people who trained alongside me and also crossed that finish line at the weekend.  Kev, Matt, Alan, Elliott, Alice, Carissa, Collette, Sarah and Tracey. You're all absolutely brilliant and I cannot thank you enough for the incredible support and encouragement you have given me in the lead up to the event, during and after. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I feel privileged to call you my friends.

What an unforgettable experience this journey has been. Thank you everyone for all your support.
