Story
Dubbed the UK’s ’Route 66’, the North Coast 500 showcases some of the finest terrain Scotland has to offer. Most sane people choose to drive it over the course of a week, but we have decided to cycle it in just 5 days, raising money for a fantastic cause.
We’ll be setting off on August 6th, and will be cycling an average of around 100 miles per day, meaning some very long (and sore) days in the saddle. It won’t be pancake flat either, we’ll be climbing over 10,000m in elevation, well over the height of Mt Everest. Throwing the traditionally unpredictable Scottish weather into the mix, this cycle will certainly be a huge mental and physical challenge. And don’t worry, we will definitely be documenting it on Strava.
So why are we putting ourselves through the pain? The Covid-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected the most vulnerable people across the country, and Social Bite are doing some incredible work supporting them over Scotland. They are currently delivering over 6000 emergency food packs each weekday to those that need it most, and have managed to deliver over 350,000 of these packs since the start of lockdown. With their social enterprise cafes being forced to close on the 20th March, Social Bite had to completely re-deploy their workforce so they could continue supporting those that rely on them.
Please help us by donating what you can to reach our target of £2000. Every pound will mean Social Bite can continue to provide vital fresh food packs to a wide range of individuals and communities including people experiencing homelessness, families in food poverty and vulnerable children and adults.
