Story
In 2021 I lost a good friend to suicide. Oli was a real character with a wicked sense of humour who always brought the best out of those around him. As a World Champion for the UKDFBA he was the best and had achieved so much, as a personal trainer, highly motivational and inspirational. As a friend we shared many interests and values but a more genuine guy you could never meet. He had so much to live for but his demons got the better of him. Occasionally you meet people who change your life, for me, Oli was one of these people and will forever be missed.
In May we are cycling the North Coast 500, just over 500miles and 31000 ft of climbing, raising money for CALM. Riding for this cause are myself, N.Rowell, J.Gay, C.Wilson, B.Greensmith, S.Langman, S.Densley, D.Ridge, B.Davidson and M.Bramley. Although they didn't know Oli personally I am so grateful that in taking this challenge on they have all recognised the importance of the work that the charity does
By supporting Calm and raising awareness it may just prevent another tragic loss, especially when resources for help are so stretched. Hopefully we can all have a little more time to listen to others, you just never know what is going on in someones mind.
The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.Anyone can hit crisis point. CALM run a free and confidential helpline and webchat 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who needs to talk about lifes problems.
