Story
500 miles, 5 days, 32,000 feet of elevation.
Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. Approximately 38% of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. Macmillan provide physical, emotional and financial support to help people live as full a life as possible both during and after diagnosis. Helping the fight against cancer.
Calum and I are cycling the North Coast 500, from the 7th-11th September 2020, to raise awareness and essential funds for the amazing work Macmillan do.
It's 500 miles (800km) around the rugged North coast of Scotland, most drive it in 7 days, we’re cycling it in 5.
Starting and finishing at Inverness Castle, It’s the ultimate cycling challenge.
This includes the famous Bealach Na Ba to the Applecross Peninsula, with very tight hairpin bends and gradients that approach 20%. It has the steepest ascent of any road climb in the UK, rising from sea level to 2,054 ft.
The route takes you through some of the most remote parts of the UK. With strong headwinds, (probably) heavy rain and a barren landscape, this doesn’t just make the route even harder but also means we’re sleeping in tents, so a good nights sleep is wishful thinking.
Any donations are greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Joe, Calum and the Macmillan team.
