Story

Update

To set the scene it took us 8,5 hours to get to the hostel on Friday , unfortunately all of our plans had to chance and instead of Team 2 starting Ben Nevis 8am Saturday and Team 2 starting 10am Saturday, the weather forecast was looking grim on all 3 mountains so to try and avoid the bad weather the start times were Team 2 alarm set 230am start 4;40am - Team 1 alarm set 4:30am start 6:25am - none of us got much sleep in the hostel so the average was 2 hours per person.

Team 1

50% off the team completed the National 3 Peaks in sub 23 hours !  With very little sleep and they pretty much ran down every mountain !! They were In a mini bus that was not restricted speed and had  a designated driver who was not climbing but had some help from Daz. This including arriving at the summit of Snowdon with 50+mph wind and rain on the summit and decent with no food since end of Ben Nevis.

Team 2

The remaining 50% successfully climbed Ben Nevis & Scafell Pike but had to abandon Snowdon due to severe weather conditions 50-70mph wind and rain! They successfully completed both of the 2 mountains in sub 19 hours including travelling - with no designated driver the drivers climbed the mountain and Dan the hero did the rest after Ben Nevis .. and the mini bus was restricted at 62mph

A couple of injuries BIG GET WELL soon to Colin who hurt his back after falling in the decent of Ben Nevis and could not continue with Scafell and Snowdon.

I was in Team 2 and although I did not make Snowdon I am very happy it only took me 3 hours 40 mins to climb  Ben Nevis and 2 hours 35 mins to climb Scafell Pike ! Don’t ask about the decents

I managed to climb Ben Nevis and Scafell with just 90 minutes sleep from the night before ! So chuffed

I will never forget the decent down from Scafell in pitch black . 50mph wind, rain, hail , side rain , poor visibility and wet streams / waterfalls and rivers we had to wade through!

Myself and some amazing humans from Nacro and their friends and family are taking part in the 3 peaks challenge - no one told me this was within 24 hours when I signed up for this!

Not only is this an amazing charity to sponsor and support but it’s also a great physical life accomplish!

Nacro Greater Manchester Outdoor Learning uses the Outdoors to help and support children, young people and the wider community from all walks of life. Through the on-going work by staff, volunteers and through fundraising, we are able to run adventurous and challenging outdoor learning programmes that equip people with valuable skills for education, work and life. We help people to become more confident, more effective and capable within society, school, college and in the work place. Our minibus appeal We are fundraising for a new accessible minibus to support our work and a team of Nacro staff, volunteers and local supporters are taking on the epic National 3 Peaks Challenge in July to raise the funds. A minibus is a valuable and much needed resource that enables us to work across the community of Greater Manchester and beyond. It allows us provide opportunities for young people to develop in an outdoor setting locally and across the UK and ensures that our activities are accessible for disabled participants too. Nacro Greater Manchester Outdoor Learning is a charity that has worked with children, young people and the wider community for the past 15 years across Greater Manchester and is part of The Nacro social Justice charity which has been established for over 50 years. Please support us!
