Story

COVID UPDATE:- DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, THE EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR 2021, I WILL NOW RUN THE EVENT ON 7TH MAY 2022.

One in two of us will be hit by cancer in our life time, if that's yourself or a loved one!! We all sit there and say "it wont happen to me". That's what I used to say before i was diagnosed with stage 4 Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma on Thursday 21st November 2019 at the age of just 29! Luckily for me, this is one of the very few cancers where at stage 4 you can still beat it!

The Rosemere Cancer Unit at Royal Preston Hospital helped me through everything and they actually couldn't have done anything more for me. I will never forget that moment I was sat in my consultants office when he gave me the news but he and the nurses took me through everything from start to finish. They answered all the questions that myself and Jo (my partner) had and helped us through every step of the way.

Jo was by my side through every appointment and every Chemo session (which started on the 3rd December 2019, less than 2 weeks after my diagnosis) until Cornavirus hit when i had to start going to my chemo sessions and appointments on my own but the nurses who were giving me my treatment were also amazing, they put there own lives on the line, working through the pandemic to help me in my battle with cancer. They took the time to sit there and talk to me, they took a genuine interest in what plans I had, holidays, wedding even down to offering to help out getting shopping whilst we were shielding for 4 months!

I eventually got to the end of my treatment on the 12th May 2020 and i just knew I had to do something to give back to the amazing staff and nurses at the Rosemere Centre, so even though I was still suffering with peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage in my feet) from the treatment I signed up for Rat Race's Dirty Double on the 7th May 2022. This is 40 gruelling miles with 400 obstacles. The training is going to hard and long but I know it's something I need to do in order for me to complete the mammoth challenge I have set myself.

I'm pleased to say that with the help of everyone at the Rosemere cancer unit, I've been one of the lucky ones, I've beaten my battle with cancer and been given the news that I'm in remission. Even though I've had this great news, the work doesn't stop for them. I still have to go for regular check ups, I'll still have to go for scans and more importantly, they need our help, so that they can give others the chance to beat their battle with cancer too.

So please, if you can afford to spare a little bit of money, no matter how big or how small, please donate to these amazing people, without them I probably wouldn't be here!
