Those who know me will know that my mother, at the age of 90, has dementia. She's had it for almost ten years now. She has a team of professional carers in the home she lives in, but also has been cared for by those she has known for many years. Carers are amazing people! They work patiently and calmly, often without reward because they care. Simple as that.
In some small way, I'd like to help carers access our services, possibly when in a time of crisis and great need. I want to be able to ensure that DCC is around to support many more carers, supporting people like my mum.
We live in Snowdonia. Its lakes, beaches and streams are a magnet for crazy people like me who LOVE wild swimming (yeh, I know it's trendy at the moment...), but not in water as cold as it was last week when we had a practice run. It was 6 degrees.
So, I'm going to put on a brave face, try not to scream too much and swim 5 lakes in March. I'll be doing this with my son, and my friend Charlotte who will be doing this in Oxford and anyone else who wants to join in. No wet suit. Just a smile. Maybe!
