Story

Sepsis kills 11 million people worldwide each year. On average, 30% of those who develop severe sepsis don't survive.

Last year I nearly lost my wife Rebecca and whilst thank god she survived, we lost our unborn boy Teddy.

That day will live with me forever, when faced with the real prospect of telling our daughter that not only would her brother be going to live in the sky, but her mummy wouldn't be coming home either.

The physical and mental toll on Bec specifically and the family continue - not a week goes by when Rory doesn't mention her baby brother.

Having raised £2,007 for MND in 2018 I never again thought I would do another year-long alcohol abstinence challenge but here I find myself - 11 months in!

It's my very small way of honouring Teddy and working towards a brighter future for those who encounter this deadly condition.

So to the "fun" part...

To date since my last drink at 11.59pm on 31st December 2021 I have managed to not drink at:

Two weddings
A stag do in Liverpool
My daughter's christening party
A summer holiday
A day at the Test match (hardest one!)
My birthday
About a million heatwaves
Football matches
Dozens of garden parties/gatherings

Still to get through:

The World Cup
Christmas
New Year's Eve

I know times are tough and Christmas is approaching but if you can spare enough to donate a "virtual pint", that would be fantastic

Cheers! (Kind of...)

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
