Story
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I was born with a congenital heart defect - Transposition of the Great Arteries. Within the first 24 hours of being born I was rushed to GOSH and had my first operation to give me a chance to survive. Then at just 3 months old I had major open heart surgery, which still only gave me a 50/50 survival chance.
At the time, this operation was rare and the process was very challenging for GOSH. If it wasn’t for their courage and perseverance, I wouldn’t be here now.
After the op, I was kept at GOSH for 6 weeks for further tests and monitoring. Once I was discharged, GOSH were committed to their follow-up care and were more than happy to provide their time and expertise. Throughout the whole experience the doctors and nurses were both compassionate and very professional. They went above and beyond to support my family and I.
At 26 years old, I am exceeding all doctors’ expectations and I am a keen sportsman. I have been wanting to give back to this amazing charity for a long time and this seems like the perfect way. I will be running the Virgin London Marathon 26.3 miles This will be a huge challenge for me as it will be my first marathon.
So if you would like to support my challenge, please donate whatever you can. It’s for such a worthwhile cause. I really can’t praise them enough.
