Story
Since Grace (my wife) very sadly and scarily experienced an ectopic pregnancy in August 2019, Grace and I have been passionately fundraising for a charity close to our hearts that supported and advised us through one of the hardest experiences of our lives. The EPT (Ectopic Pregnancy Trust).
I have chosen to run the London Marathon this Autumn to continue to raise funds and awareness for the EPT.
Take a look below at our story which lead to us supporting the charity and hopefully continue to raise awareness and funds for Ectopic Pregnancy…
GRACE & NATHANS STORY
I experienced an Ectopic Pregnancy in August 2019. The pregnancy was our second and one we’d planned and tried for, so when we found out we were pregnant again in July 2019 we were over the moon to be having another baby! For 2 blissful weeks everything seemed “normal” and we dreamed away, making plans for the future…
When I first noticed that something was wrong I went for a private scan and it was believed that I had had a “complete” miscarriage. However, things went from bad to worse when another scan showed I was infact still pregnant, but it was an Ectopic Pregnancy in my right Fallopian tube.
Initially, we attempted “Expectant management” treatment where bloods are taken every 48hrs to monitor HCG levels. Once it was clear that my Ectopic Pregnancy was not resolving itself, I had the next option of treatment- “Medical Management” using an aggressive drug called Methotrexate. Unfortunately, 2 days later I experienced severe pain and agony- my tube had RUPTURED and I was rush into emergency, life saving surgery to remove the pregnancy and my right tube.
Despite being at higher risk of another ectopic and with only 1 tube, I amazingly and luckily fell pregnant again 7 month later with our cheeky, little Maxi who we had in December 2020. To our surprise, we are also expecting another little baby who will be joining our family this September!
If you’d told me in August 2019 I’d go on to have two healthy pregnancies I would not have believed you, but the amazing information, advice and support provide by the The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust helped us to recover from our experience and get to where we are today. The EPT fills a gap in emotional support that the NHS struggles to cover, along with valuable, factual information and research that helps women make informed decisions about their treatment when going through the scary and potentially life threatening ordeal that is an Ectopic Pregnancy.
Ever since my ectopic pregnancy, Nathan has wanted to give something back to the EPT. We would love to get up to £4000. The more money raised, the more the EPT can help couples and continue the important work of raising awareness and funding research into ectopic pregnancy.
We really appreciate any donations, no matter how big or small.
Many Thanks
Nathan & Grace :-)
