Story
Summary:
I will be aiming to complete the Fan Dance - the infamous load-bearing march undertaken by UK Special Forces in the Brecon Beacons during selection, on the 13th November 2022 (Remembrance Day). The march is organised by Who Dares Gyms and I will be marching alongside members of UK Special Forces, Royal Marines, veterans and volunteers.
Why?
For centuries, people have been forced to endure immeasurable hardship and suffering because of conflict. Anybody who knows me will know that the military has always had a special place in my heart, and has shaped my life in so many ways.
I will be marching for the injured and fallen of conflicts past and current, to support charities that enable those who have endured such hardships to forge a positive future, and charities that ensure the next generation have the best chance possible to create that future.
All money will be going directly to four charities; Rock2Recovery, The Dorset Children's Foundation, REORG, and MYTIME Young Carers.
The Mission:
A 24km load-bearing march requiring 2x ascents and 2x descents of Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales.
I will be completing the march with a 25kg backpack - the pack weight required for UKSF selection.
We will set off at 09:00 from the Storey Arms and arrive at the top of Pen Y Fan no later than 11:00 (no fail mission).
At 11:00, we will have a 2 minute silence at the top and a tot of rum in honour of the fallen and injured in all prior and current conflicts.
This will unequivocally be my hardest challenge to date - only fitting for the immeasurable sacrifices that have been made by men and women in conflict over the years.
My goal is to raise £500 before the event and £1000 overall.
The Charities:
Rock2Recovery: "Our mission is to save and change the lives of those in our Armed Forces, our Veteran Community, the Emergency Services and their families who are affected by stress. Our purpose is to inspire and coach towards a more positive future."
The Dorset Children's Foundation: "The Dorset Children’s Foundation is an independent local charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities living within our community."
MYTIME Young Carers: "With an educational approach driven by charitable action, our mission is to level the playing field for young carers by providing them with the support, friendship and opportunities that every child deserves."
REORG: "We teach the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu to those who have serious, life-altering injuries, or who are suffering from PTSD and depression."
Thank you!
If you've made it this far, thank you very much for taking the time to read about my raise. Any and all donations and shows of support will be hugely appreciated.
