Story
I have too many dear friends who have lost a child. I've witnessed first hand the indescribable devastation that it creates. I have wished so many times that I could somehow fix it, mend them, magic their pain away and I have watched with awe and admiration as they slowly rebuild themselves and learn to somehow live with the unimaginable.
SLOW - Surviving the Loss of Your World - is a London based charity that provides crucial support for bereaved parents who are facing a life without their child in it. For most, it is a lifeline, and many credit it for them having survived at all. It is a small charity and funding is critical for it to be able to offer continued support to families going through this.
I am no long distance runner. I had no burning desire to do a half marathon. Everything hurts, my body is still mending itself from being very ill last year and I am finding the training impossibly challenging. Yet when my dear friend Clara, who lost her daughter Maude when she was just two years old, asked me if I would do this with her, I felt compelled to. It felt important. SLOW was invaluable for her - they helped her and her husband Jason in a way that all of us who loved them, couldn't. So this is for SLOW but it is also for Maude, for Max and for Romy. Please dig deep and help make the blood, sweat and tears worthwhile xx
