Story
I'm running my first ever Half Marathon in April 2024 to support the work of the MS Society. The MS Society has become in the past few months very close to mine and my family’s hearts, after my wonderful Sister in Law to be, Harriet, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Before Harriet’s diagnosis, my understanding of the condition was limited.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable condition that affects your brain and spinal cord. More than 130,000 people in the UK have MS. Once diagnosed, MS stays with you for life, but treatments and specialists can help you to manage the condition and its symptoms.
The MS Society is here to help everyone live well with MS. Every year they reach thousands of people with help and support through their MS Helpline and local groups whilst investing in ground-breaking research to stop MS in its tracks.
You can read more about Harriet’s experience here:
At the beginning of May I was hospitalised due to my legs being completely numb. A brain scan and torso scan later showed lesions on my brain and my spine. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. For those who don’t know what it is (no it’s not a bendy spine!) it’s an auto immune disease where your immune system attacks the myelin. This is a coating protecting your nerves and the attack creates lesions on the brain and the spine which come with lots of symptoms. This has been the most terrifying time for me and my family. The support I have received from the MS NHS clinic has been immaculate. It’s so important that MS charities stay funded to continue research into a disease that’s not very well known. I’m so grateful for the the support from all of my family and especially from my incredible soon to be sister in law who is running the half london marathon in aid of MS society. Please donate anything you can to help people like me 🧡
