I’m Natasha and I will be jumping out of a plane to raise funds for MAG (Mines Advisory Group).

 

MAG is a Manchester-based Nobel Peace Prize winning charity that clears landmines in conflict affected countries.

 

I have been inspired by the lifesaving work that MAG does to help communities affected by conflict. 

Imagine if outside your front door there is a powerful explosive weapon waiting for you or a member of your family to disturb it. Because it is hidden from view, avoiding it is a constant game of chance. You don't know how many there are and neither does anyone else. Every day millions of people live with this fear. Every day civilians die or suffer horrific injuries from abandoned weapons left behind after conflict.

 

Five reasons to donate to MAG:

1)    In 2011, there were 4,286 casualties caused by mines, victim-activated IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and cluster munition remnants

 

2)    MAG is supporting Syrian refugees escaping to Iraq and has cleared 650,000m of land so a camp housing more than 45,000 could be opened in Northern Iraq

 

3)    Ninety percent of MAG’s staff are national – native to the country they are working in

 

4)    Less than one percent of MAG’s income is spent on fundraising

 

5)    Amputees make up seven per cent of MAG Cambodia’s staff
