Edinburgh Marathon Festival Full Marathon 2022 · 29 May 2022 ·

We aim to help bereaved children through treasuring existing memories alongside making new ones. We provide memory boxes and supporting materials to hospitals, hospices, funeral directors and more to help professionals better support children and families experiencing bereavement.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have chosen to use running my first marathon on the 29th May 2022 as a way to raise funds for the charity Made a Mark. Although I have been running for a few years now, I have only run over 17 miles twice and know that my first full marathon will be a massive challenge for me!

Made a Mark is a wonderful charity that provide memory boxes and resources to many settings including acute hospitals, hospices and schools to help them better support children following the death of a close loved one. Set up in 2018 following the sudden death of Mark Knapp, the charity has provided over 1,700 memory boxes to date. You can read more about the charity and their work here - https://madeamarkcharity.com/

Whilst a memory box cannot ease the pain of losing a close loved one for a child, it can help support them through the journey and build memories that help them heal. Containing two books, two stuffed animals (one for the child and one for the loved one they lose to keep with them), a hand print kit, a hairlock kit and a journal, these boxes can give a bereaved child comfort in such a difficult time for many years.

I'll update this page from time to time but also have a running instagram account where I'll update a bit more regularly if you wish to check in on my progress and see how it goes on the day in real time! - https://www.instagram.com/running_in_green/
