Natalie's Route to VMLM 2022!

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
I entered the ballot to run the London Marathon as it’s always been a dream of mine and with us both turning 40 I thought why not! Little did I know I would get a place!
So in October 2019 the running started! I was preparing for the Apr 2020 race when the pandemic hit and the marathon was postponed to Oct 4th 2020. During the summer I lost some motivation due to the uncertainty and then when the race was cancelled I slowed my training right down! The announcement came it would be a virtual race and after speaking with my friend we decided to run half and walk half.... which quickly escalated into just running it all. With little preparation I DID IT!! Thanks to a huge amount of support from local friends and family, we crossed the line in 5hr30mins which I am so proud of!
My original ballot place has been deferred to April 2022 and so that is what I will focus on and train for properly this time!! Hoping to plan lots of other events in between!
I am running the London Marathon for Mind, the mental health charity - watch this video to learn more about their work. I am running to support mental health professionals, whose work is so valuable yet so hugely underfunded. I am running to reduce the stigma of mental illness. I am running to demonstrate the mental health benefits of exercise, and what a despairing mind can go on to achieve.
1 in 4 people per year suffer with mental health illness. It is so important that we talk to each other and support each other and be kind to each other, so...
