Story
On September 26th, 2021 I will be completing the Great Manchester 10K run, in aid of Allergy UK.
Allergy UK is the leading national charity which provide help, support, advice and information to those suffering with an allergic disease.
It is estimated that 21 million people in the UK live with allergic disease. But there remains a huge gap in healthcare services for those affected by this disease of the immune system. Allergy UK aim to raise the profile of allergy at all levels, with a vision for everyone affected by allergy to receive the best possible care and support.
Allergy is the most common chronic disease in Europe. Up to 20% of patients with allergies struggle daily with the fear of a possible asthma attack, anaphylactic shock, or even death from an allergic reaction (EAACU, 2016).
In the 20 years to 2012 there was a 615% increase in the rate of hospital admissions for anaphylaxis in the UK (Turner, Paul J., et al, 2015).
More than 150 million Europeans suffer from chronic allergic diseases and the current prediction is that by 2025 half of the entire EU population will be affected (EAACI, 2016)
Not a lot of people realise how dangerous allergies can be, how fatal they are and how the percentage of people with allergies is growing year by year.
In 2010, I lost a close friend due to an allergic reaction, we were very young and this was devastating to all family and friends. Molly will forever be missed and will always remain in our hearts. So this is for you beautiful!
So, on September 6th, 2020, I am going to run the 10k run. If you know me, I’ve never really enjoyed running that much, unless it’s a game of football or rounders! So I’m going to put myself through this and train really hard.
Any donation you can make will make a huge difference to millions of lives, providing more knowledge, help and support through Allergy UK.
Thank you!
