Story
On March 21, 2010, I will be running (walking/crawling) the Reading Half Marathon. This will sound ridiculous to those who know me well, but I'm doing it for an amazing cause and really need your support.
Last December my wonderful grandma, Sylvia Hester, lost her battle with cancer. For a short period she was cared for at the Duchess of Kent House in Reading - a wonderful hospice which depends entirely on kind donations to maintain the comfort of their seriously ill patients.
In her final days my Grandma would have really benefited from this care at Duchess of Kent House - where my Grandad and her family could visit her regularly. But although beds were available, funding and staffing shortfalls meant she wasn't able to use one when she needed it most. She died alone in a ward at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
By sponsoring my run you will help staff at the Duchess of Kent House ensure more of their unused beds can be reopened to patients like my Grandma. The race will be really difficult for me - I've never ever done anything like it, but it will be nothing compared to what many patients at Duchess of Kent go through so please, please, please support me in helping them.
You don't have to dig deep... all donations, no matter how small, will be gratefully received and will go such a long way.
Thank you all so much!!
