We are an appeal of the ICR and raise funds to make the discoveries that defeat cancer

Story

Hey everyone :-)

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

I have decided to do a parachute jump in aid of Everyman. Everyman is an appeal set up by The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) to raise money for research into prostate and testicular cancer. I won't go into massive detail about all the wonderful things they do everyday, you can read that for yourself here... www.everyman-campaign.org

Each year in the UK, nearly 41,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. My Dad is one of those men.

My Dad has recently been given the all-clear after his second diagnosis of prostate cancer. When he was first diagnosed he received Radiotherapy treatment, and for the most recent diagnosis he had to undertake Cryotherapy treatment. It is because of charities like Everyman that all the research into the treatments, that lead to the 'all-clears' are able to carry on taking place.

I want to raise awareness (and lots of cash!) for this charity so more daddys, grandads, brothers, uncles, sons, nephews, friends and anybody else affected by these terrible diseases can receive the treatment, support and help that they need.

My family is very lucky, and we hope this is the last time my Dad has to fight this disease, but we know that not everybody can be as lucky as us. I really hope that by raising awareness it will inspire others to take care of their own health and be aware of cancer because so many cases can be cured if caught at an early stage; it’s just about knowing the facts and knowing what to look for.

By supporting Everyman, you're helping fund the world-leading work of scientists at the ICR.

So in honour of my (very, very) brave Daddy, I am going to be brave and PARACHUTE JUMP out of a plane at 10,000ft. ARGH! I am terrified, but so excited! I will be doing it on Saturday 22nd September in Grange-over-Sands. I would really appreciate any sponsorship donation, large or small, I know this is the worst time to be asking for money, but it really will be going to an amazing cause! Every little really, really does help. I have a target of £500 and I would be eternally grateful to every single person who helps me acheive this! So please dig deep and donate.

I love you all and I hope you will help me make a difference!

THANK YOU :-) I will never be able to tell you how grateful I am.

P.S. Here's what our money can buy:

£15      - is the amount it costs us to extract DNA from a single sample.

£21      - could provide a single lab with power for one week.

£50      - covers the cost of our daily lab essentials including gloves, glass and plasticware.

£100     - buys a simple pipette, used to transfer small volumes of liquids between containers.

£500     - buys a liquid nitrogen tank, used to store tumour and blood samples.

£1,000  - pays for a microarray experiment to analyse the difference in gene expression patterns between five cancer and five normal patient tissue samples.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Everyman is an appeal run by The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Every year some 10,000 men lose their lives to prostate cancer and over 2,000 others have their world turned upside down by a diagnosis of testicular cancer. These men are the reason we are fundraising for male specific cancers.
