Story
Ryan and I have (stupidly) signed up to the London Marathon in April 2023 for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)! This a massive challenge for us as we cannot stand running!
There are currently 400,000 people in the UK with type 1 diabetes, over 29,000 of them are children.
JDRF fund research that will cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes and its complications.
They focus on investing in research that will transform the lives of people with type 1 diabetes – improving treatments today until they can find a cure.
This charity is very close to our hearts as Ryan’s auntie and uncle have suffered with diabetes their whole lives and my younger sister Lucy was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 11 years old. It has been a massive learning experience for us as a family and for Lucy in particular. She very rarely lets it get her down, but it does have a massive impact on her day to day life and can have subsequent health consequences. She must ensure always has her insulin pen with her, she must test her blood and inject herself at least four times a day.
Thanks to extensive research she now benefits from Libre patches which limits the number of blood tests she needs each day. However, I hope that one day we can find a cure for this disease so that Lucy, and the thousands of other people who live with diabetes can live normal lives.
Any donation you can give would be so greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much.
