Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This coming Sunday (19th September 2021), myself and my Husband (Aka Team Perry) are taking on the crazy challenge of cycling 55 miles from London to Brighton, for a charity very close to our hearts - The Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The Motor Neurone Disease Association focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by motor neurone disease in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
MND is also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or, in the United States, Lou Gehrig's disease.
This challenge is in memory and is dedicated to my dear cousin Tony Conway. Tony, sadly lost his fight with this horrific disease in 2015 at the very young age of 36, after 4, very hard years from his first diagnosis.
Motor neurone disease (MND) affects the nerves called motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord. These nerves tell your muscles what to do. When motor neurones are damaged, it can affect the way your body works.
Over the course of Tony's illness, as well as the unconditional support he received from his loving family and friends. Tony wrote a blog in which friends, family and others could read to understand his day to day struggles, however, for those that knew him, despite what he was going through, he always kept it as humorous as possible which shows the awesome human he was. As time went on, as his body started to lose strength and muscle, and he became less mobile and unable to speak, he continued the blog through technology in which he could write with his eyes which was truly inspiring and kept us all close to him no matter the distance apart.
Tony was a fantastic Son, brother, husband, father, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to so many lives he touched. He showed so much strength which he demonstrated throughout his illness. A true inspiration to others and made his family and friends proud every single day.
I know Tony will be laughing as he watches Ash and I, in our tight cycling get up, sweating in places we do not speak of! However, I couldn't think of a better cause than to raise awareness and support for this charity who do so much for loved ones suffering with this horrific disease, and hopefully one day, with our help, we can find a cure.
We miss you everyday Tony - This one's for you! xxx
