Story
Hello, I’m Natalie and thanks for stopping by!
I'm proud to be running my first marathon in the 2022 TCS London Marathon as part of Epilepsy Society's Team Purple! The UK’s only charity transforming the lives of people with epilepsy through world-leading research, advocacy and care.
Whilst most people are familiar with the term epilepsy, there is understandable fear and ignorance amongst the general population. Epilepsy can affect anyone of us at any time.
I want to do my bit to spread awareness and raise funds for the Epilepsy Society in the best way I know how - through my enthusiasm for sport and fitness.
For me, it's personal – my inspiration comes from my best and oldest friend from school, Keeley Walker, being diagnosed with Grand Mal Frontal Lobe in 2018 aged 32yrs. Keeley was an active, sociable, young woman, (working in the communications sector), prior to a series of frightening seizures which eventually led to her diagnosis. Virtually overnight, Keeley's independent life was irrevocably changed - no longer able to drive or maintain independent living, she moved back to her family home.
The London Marathon is on 2nd October 2022. A year ago, almost to the day, Keeley woke up one morning to find she couldn’t move her legs. A truly frightening experience. It took nine weeks to recover the full use of her legs unaided. As I visited my dear mate, I wished there was more I could do.
Ever since we were little, Keeley has always been a brave and shining bright girl and that is how she endeavours to face her new situation.
It's a real trial and error process to prescribe the most effective drug regime for someone, whether child or adult - no two individuals are the same. This takes time and money to fund vital research to help people live their best lives despite the daily challenges they face in dealing with symptoms which can be life threatening.
Your donation will make a big difference as there are over half a million people with epilepsy in the UK, so around 1 in 100 people. Your support is vital and every pound counts.
Thanks so much for your support.
Sincerely
Natalie
