Story
The Royal Marsden opened its doors in 1851 as the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education.
It’s a centre of excellence with an international reputation for ground-breaking research and pioneering the very latest in cancer treatments and technologies, as well as specialising in cancer diagnosis.
But as a family member, you not only want your relative to receive the very best cancer treatment possible, you also want to know that they are being cared for equally as well. The Royal Marsden, absolutely excelled in both areas.
As with any serious illness, the road to recovery is never straightforward and fraught with setbacks.
The Royal Marsden were never defeated by Annette’s illness and time and time again, would offer treatments in order to eradicate the cancer, or simply to give her more time, when it was apparent that a cure was not possible.
If you spoke to Annette about The Royal Marsden, she had nothing but praise and good things to say about the doctors, consultants, nurses, ambulance drivers, kitchen staff, cleaners and any other member of staff she encountered.
She knew their first name, and would used it. Every single member of staff that entered Annette’s hospital room, was greeted with a big contagious smile, and a cheery welcome. And they often entered her room just to say hello and have a chat.
If you have a relative in and out of hospital long term, with lengthy stays in between, as Annette did over the course of her 4 year courageous battle with cancer; you know it is both very daunting and concerning, for the patient and the family.
But, The Royal Marsden, with its specialist, friendly and caring staff, made the whole experience so much more bearable and lighter.
The mission of the Royal Mardsen is to continue to make a national and global contribution to cancer research and treatment, so that more people are cured and quality of life is improved for those living with cancer.
With your donation on Annette’s behalf, you can help this exceptional hospital make their mission an on going reality.
Thank you for your donation.
