Story
A new mental health inpatient unit for young people
LPT's new 15-bed facility, which is set to open in August 2020 has been designed in line with a clinical model developed through engagement with staff, service users and families. The unit will include provision for young people with eating disorders. Previously, young people had to go out of area for this specialist care.
Locating the new unit on the Glenfield site also means it will be closer to other local mental health services and infrastructure, provided by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, including the Bennion Centre (adult eating disorders) and the Bradgate Mental Health Unit. This brings a number of benefits, including the facilitation of staff training and clinical supervision, as well as support in an emergency.
At Pick Everard, we have been involved in the design of this really important facility, delivering the Structural and Civil Engineering design and so this facility has a place in my heart. I have also suffered recently with my mental health, and so I know how important these facilities are to the community. I would really like to help them further by supporting the Beacon Appeal, which is to raise further funds to provide equipment for the new unit.
Beacon Appeal
Through the Beacon Appeal, LPT aim to raise £15,000 which will enable them to purchase sensory equipment and lighting for the garden area, and additional sports equipment, both of which will help to promote the recovery of young people in their care.
I am running the Leicestershire 10k on 20th October at Prestwold Hall, my first proper running event, so I would really appreciate it if you would sponsor me for this cause.
