Story
As part of the celebration of International Women's Day I am announcing my huge challenge that I set for myself in order to raise funds for Women's Aid UK.
I will walk the entire South West Coast Path (From Minehead to Poole) this summer and I will also be taking field recordings on the way to contribute the sound diary of my trip and the wonderful nature of the coast. The final piece will be put on bandcamp and sold as a piece with proceedings going to the same charity. From interesting (and probably a bit terrifying) facts, apparently walking the entire SWCP one way is equivalent to climbing Mount Everest 4 times with all it's ascents and descents.
Part of this project is the idea to encourage women to outdoor sports and hiking, which as we all perhaps discovered in the past year can be a real life saver for our mental and physical health. I encourage my friends to join me in this challenge on different stretches (but please check the itinerary first, as there will be long milage to cover each day and the schedule will be quite tight!)
Often people ask - how can we actually take action to help empower women? I chose Women's Aid as its aim is to end domestic violence against women and children. The charity works at both local and national levels to ensure women's safety from domestic violence and promotes policies and practices to prevent domestic violence. When caring for the empowering of women we have to remember the significance of providing support for them at their most vulnerable. By seeking to provide basic security and quality of life to all, we can look at fighting inequality in it's wider sense.
Please join me, any donation counts! The more money is in the pot, the more motivation there will be! I appreciate that this might not be the best time for everyone to feel charitable, but hopefully together we can come up with a meaningful sum, bit by bit.
Thank you x
