Story
Once again friends of NAS Newtownards will be pounding the streets of Belfast to help raise vital funds for our amazing group. We have two teams taking part in the relay with Noel taking on the full 26 miles!!!!!
Also, we have Louise, a NAS Mum who is running at least 5k every day of World Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month (April), to help raise vital funds!!
The National Autistic Society Newtownards Branch was founded by a local parent back in 2008 and is now a registered charity that supports children who are on the Autistic Spectrum and their families.
We are run by a group of dedicated parent volunteers.
Currently, we have over 200 families registered from all over the province. We run many activities for our families, such as fortnightly clubs, swimming lessons, sibling groups, cinema trips, weekly bounce sessions, summer day trips, annual residential and panto to name a few. At our activities. parents remain on-site and this provides a chance to chat and share experiences and support.
During the lockdowns, we provided craft activity packs with instructional videos, online parties, virtual magic shows, online bingo nights, online quizzes, even set up a virtual Yoga class. Mums, Dads and Carers managed to get a treat on Mothers Day and Fathers Day.
We receive no government funding and all funds are raised by the committee and our members.
