Story
Members of C (MOGAUNG) Company, the 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles (1 RGR) will be running a distance of 1956 km which is the equivalent distance from Land’s End to John O’ Groats (End to End Trail on foot) to raise money for the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, Kent NHS Trust. Sgt Indra and Cpl Naresh are leading this charity event for the noble cause of our NHS Trust.
During this national emergency caused by COVID-19, we would like to express our huge thank you to all the NHS staff throughout the nation. We have witnessed our NHS Staff providing 24/7 comprehensive care while putting themselves at high risk of receiving the virus. You have always been fantastic, and even more so during this pandemic by doing your job so selflessly. We know how hard it is, both physically and mentally for you all to cope with this situation, you are just incredible! Your inspiration is what motivates us to run the equivalent length of the UK from Land’s End to John O’ Groats (1956 km), to praise and support your amazing hard work.
We chose to raise money for the William Harvey Hospital NHS Trust because for most of us, it is our local hospital where we go for any emergencies and general appointments. In addition, Cpl Naresh’s wife and many other spouses of our 1 RGR families are working in this hospital as “key workers”. In this national crisis, we would like to provide some support from 1 RGR to our local NHS Hospital.
As NHS staff are working 24/7 to combat this pandemic, we, the members of 1 RGR, will also take turns to run continuously for roughly 5 days 4 nights inside the SJM Barracks, from 11th May 20 until the cumulative distance covered by all the members is equal to distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats at 1956 km.
Our aim is to raise as much money as possible for our local NHS Trust to show our appreciation for their outstanding work during this pandemic.
Respectfully,
Sgt Indra Gurung and Cpl Naresh Rai
1 RGR C (MOGAUNG) Coy
