Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The image on this page is of an artwork I made on the subject of homelessness, with David Crawforth in 1997. We thatched a bus shelter on Tottenham Court Road outside the Halifax Building Society and published statistics about home ownership in the sites usually reserved for advertisments and bus routes.
Pretty much every day I am confronted by a destitute person, who has slept out on the street the night before. It's hard to know how to handle each encounter and it never gets easier. Sometimes I give, sometimes I pass by on the other side.
When I heard about the Robes sleepout project, it felt like something to which I could contribute with a tangible result - a collective action to support people in my central London live/work locality (London Bridge to Vauxhall) this winter.
If you ever feel as helpless as I do when confronted by someone homeless you might consider making a financial contribution to support my gesture, which WILL do something:
£15 - A New Sleeping bag for a Robes guest
£5 - An evening Meal for one Guest
£30 - A new camp bed for a Robes guest
£120 - An evening meal, overnight stay and breakfast for 15 Guests
Robes continues to be the only cold weather night shelter of its kind south of the Thames until Croydon.
